Norma Jean Matson, 77, went home to the Lord Friday, June 9, 2017. The oldest daughter of Dr. James and Rose Brightwell, she was born in Barberton, Ohio and grew up in Akron, Ohio. She married the love of her life, Ted in 1958 and moved to Sacramento, California where her daughter Beverly was born. Returning to Ohio, their son Tim was born and they lived in Akron until 1972 when they moved to Deltona, Florida.

Norma was an exceptional elementary school teacher and taught in Ohio and Volusia County, FL for over 40 years, retiring in 2001. Norma held a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Akron University and a Master's of Science in Educational Administration from Nova Southeastern University. When not teaching, Norma and Ted spent their summers at their rustic cottage on the banks of the Ottawa River in Quebec. An avid reader and active member of her church, Norma also enjoyed spending time with her children and their families.

Preceded in death by her husband Ted (2008) and her son Tim (2015), Norma is survived by her daughter Beverly Larsen (Scott), grandchildren Jacob Matson (Cara), Thomas Larsen, Zimmer Matson, Kristen Larsen, 2 great-grandsons, and her sister Linda Bias, as well as numerous friends and extended family members. A private celebration of life is planned in the near future. In lieu of flowers, Norma's family asks that you consider a contribution to VITAS of Central Florida.
Arrangements under the direction of Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, Orange City, FL.
